Thingiverse—the world's largest and by far most popular 3D printing community—offers more than 1 Million designs. For the most part the available designs are recombinations of existing ones, so-called 'remixes'. We analyze remixing within Thingiverse, visualize remix-relationships by a family tree of 3D designs and present common remix patterns.

Marco Wirth holds a master's degree in Computer Science from the University of Paderborn and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Information Systems at the University of Würzburg. His research focuses on creativity, remixing and 3D printing.
